Baldr's parents knew he was doomed to die so they asked everything not to kill him except the humble mistletoe Loki mischievous as always found out this and made a arrow or spear of it and gave it to Baldr's blind brother to throw at Balder as was the fashion in those days he wouldn't usually die but as the mistletoe wasn't asked not to kill balder it did.
